Longhair Warms Up Winter at Bordello A Parigi

It’s a new project from well-rounded producer Marko Pelaic and German DJ Benedikt Bogenberger. Longhair, is an interesting reminder that winter is winding down. The duo’s self-titled twelve-inch debut is a masterclass in ‘modern disco’.

From the cold streets and canals just steps from Amsterdam’s Centraal, the Bordello shop is a hub for quality wax. As a purveyor, most top labels cross their shelves, but the homegrown imprint is what shines. In a town jam-packed with tasteful dance, this crew is a standout. Clocking in a cat 128, the team proves that they’re keeping is fresher than ever.

When the kick first hit, I was sure Ian Curtis’ driving lead vox would soon arrive on the crisp 70s percussion. Pelaic’s mastery of the standards that make disco unique is evident. His past with labels like Hypercolour, House Is Ok, and more give him a long resume in tasteful, modern house. The three tracks are entrancing to say the least.

BAP128: Outside a cold wind whistles through the leafless trees. Inside, in the Bordello, we maintain the summer heat with the inviting warmth of a new signing: Longhair. Incandescent notes, a powerful kick drum and thick bass introduce the pair of Swift and Homeboy with their track “Squirt.” Claps coalesce with radiant chords as the Wilde Renate residents beam happiness from speakers. “Bunny” follows. True to its name, the second piece is an alluring work of soft pads, gentle percussion and playful melodies. Hopping between styles, “Bunny” shines with a glistening Miami chic and glows with a house brightness. The chesty thump of drums is met by toms and a funk-filled synthline for the journey that is “As We Travel.” Clear seas and sun-kissed beaches are conjured as Longhair whisk you away on a final voyage of pure musical pleasure.
