Luciano Revives Vinyl Imprint with New EP on Basaec
Luciano has reached every corner of the globe with his ever-influential Cadenza crew. The Chilean transplant has become a native European impact with his elegant take on tech house. Blending tribal and jazz with house, a Luciano set is a consistent display of DJ prowess without the overwhelming drops of today's dance trends. Dubbed as one of the top labels of the decade by Mixmag, the Cadenza crew has introduced many of the major players in European house and techno. As part of continued expansion, Luciano launched a vinyl heavy arm 'Basaec' back in 2014 but we haven't seen much since then. He's back this week with 003 and it's going straight to our crate.
Dynamic and emotive A-side ‘Lost In Lymbo’ takes the lead and sees Luciano offer up a typically intricate twelve-minute excursion with subtly modulating and evolving percussion, spiraling synth swells, sporadic vocal chants and a smoothly unfolding aesthetic. The latter half sees Luciano paired with fellow Cadenza artist Argenis for ‘Pato’s Track’, stripping back the vibe to a raw cowbell and rim shot percussive-led state whilst lumpy subs, vocal murmurs and subtly unfolding flute-like melodies ebb and flow throughout the composition.
Even as dance trends change with the wind, Luciano stays true to house music roots. Without the need for flashy drops and stage antics, the brands behind this tech iconic continue to find their way into sets across the globe. We hope to see more on his vinyl imprint Basaec, but for now this record will stay on repeat.
