Verified: Opening A Festival With An Orchestra Works Best

Dutch orchestra Metropole Orkest have become quite the unique harmony for the regions largest innovative music event. For four years running, the group have marked the official start to Amsterdam Dance Event. Launching each year with a unique electronic collaboration, recently years have seen a list of legends; Henrik Schwarz (2016), Jameszoo (2017) and Colin Benders (2018). Metropole Orkest return for round four in 2019 enlisting SOHN for the performance.

SOHN makes downtempo, sultry electronica that sounds a bit like the subtle beats of James Blake or the solo work of Thom Yorke from Radiohead. SOHN has already given two outstanding performances to sold-out Melkweg crowds.

The collaboration is more evidence of ADE’s shift toward live as part of the even program and conference topics. As siloed dance music becomes and integral part of pop culture, the conference shows an ever-expanding offering for innovative creators of all sizes.
