Parallel Minds: A Toronto Label

Just a few hours from the genre’s founding city, Toronto has always been close to the sound of techno. A new label dubbed Parallel Minds comes from a crew rooted in the nightlife of the Ontario capital. Three locals announced their plans to focus on local artists with an essential twelve inch ready for the club crate.

Parallel Minds is a group of like-minded musicians, DJs, and graphic artists working together to bring compelling, progressive electronic music from Toronto, Canada to the rest of the world. Spearheaded by Ciel, and newcomers Daniel 58, and Yohei S. the collective offers on its inaugural VA release four diverse cuts of house, breakbeat, and hardcore to energize your body and comfort your soul.

Strolling through the first four track of this brand new label, we hear a unique and refreshing house vibe painting a picture of the outlet’s ethos. Pulsing percussion paired with cosmic melodies is the name of the game for the entrancing dance floor sounds that often make up the founders’ sets. PM 001 is no different as the crew kick off on the right foot.

Co-founder Cindy Li, aka Ciel, has clearly put in the work to get to this point. Featured as an RA Breaking Through artist in 2018, this Toronto had already put in a few years in the local promoter circuit. Li’s events and top-billed series all embody her ethos and ‘belief in the social power of music’. Her radio show Work In Progress and rave series Not U It’s Me both paved the way for an organic connection with the Discwoman team.

Now teaming up with Canadian locals Yohei S and Raf Reza, Parallell Minds is the next step for Ciel and this Toronto crew. Have spent the last couple of year behind the decks across the globe, Li leads the label’s debut with a well balanced heater. Clocking in at a frenetic 134BPM, (side A1) “Hind Sight is 360” is a peak-time dancefloor banger featuring what has become trademark characteristics of Ciel’s productions: intricate drum programming and lush, jungle-inspired pads.
