Nic Taskers London label Whities has become quite the spot for forward thinking late night sounds. It feels pretty right that Bambounou, who’s known to spin some weird shit, is the release. The Parisian producer earned his stripes on the now-defunct 50 Weapons and has since proven this his work behind the decks is an art form in itself. Clocking in for cat 021, this release is a must have.
..the tracks all feel at home in that heads down part of the dance, where these rhythms magnetise those present into the same seductive trance.
Teasing the release with first track ‘Temple’, Bambounou preps a dense array of percussion across the robotically-tribal tune. High paced and high pitched, the seven-minute A side is as if created by an AI-driven drone orchestra on an evolved electronic planet far away. Read and waiting for the B-side, we can bet this with continue be his true form, genre-bending.
Bambounou will play at the TATE the day after the EP release, among a handful of label showcases including Berghain Feb 15, The Cause in London March 16, and Concrete in Paris March 23.
